About C.H.E.S.T Nepal

The Community Health Education and Services by Telehealth (CHEST) Nepal is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing health, education and vocational training services to distant rural communities through technology. The telemedicine center of CHEST Nepal is located at the DI SKIN Hospital and Referral Center in Kathmandu. An advanced video conferencing setup is used to provide consultation services for patients with skin diseases. Same video conferencing setup is also used to provide education and other vocational training services to rural communities, as per their needs.

History of C.H.E.S.T Nepal

CHEST Nepal was established in the year 2009 AD (2066 BS) under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Anil Kumar Jha with members Dr. Mahabir Pun, Dr. Mahesh Shah, Dr. UN Pathak, Dr. Chandra Kanta Paudel, Dr. Ram Bhadra Adiga, Mr. Rishee Prasad Sapkota, Mr. Gyansheel Ghimire, Mr. Bipin Deo, and Mr. Ram Prasad Pokhrel as financial advisor. During the establishment period, Dr. Anil Kumar Jha met Prof. Dr. Günter Burg, who had come to Nepal Medical College to share his knowledge and experience with MBBS students at Nepal Medical College. Dr. Günter Burg also brought some donations that he had collected in Switzerland to buy laptops for easy access to the internet for the people in rural areas of Nepal. With the help of Dr. Mahabir Pun, a computer with a camera was setup and teledermatology service were started in Gerkutar, Nuwakot. Later, two more stations were added in Prabat and Janakpur.
